Crisp

MudFire Gallery welcomes Conner Mckissack, Masayuki Sasaki, and Liz Zlot Summerfield for "Crisp" -- an exhibition of modernist functional pottery with clean lines and tight styling. This gallery exhibit and sale will be available for viewing March 18 through April 8 of 2006 at MudFire Gallery, 175 Laredo Drive, Decatur, GA 30030. An artist reception and opening party will be held from 5 pm to 9pm on Saturday, March 18, 2006.

About the Show

Crisp brings together three ceramic artists who share a passion for striking forms, a quiet economy, precision and minimalist decoration. The trio take familiar functional objects as a starting point for their explorations of line, form, color, geometry and high design. The resulting works both celebrate and push the boundaries of functionalism, creating a tension between the desires to display and utilize. Evident throughout the show is a strong commitment to material, craft, and quality construction.

Conner Mckissack received his BFA from Valdosta State University and is earning an MFA in Ceramics from the University of Florida. His work has appeared in 500 Pitchers and 500 Cups by Lark Books, and was recently included in The Clay Cup X, a juried exhibition at Southern Illinois University.

Masayuki Sasaki earned his BFA from Western Kentucky University. He has exhibited his award-winning paintings and ceramics throughout the Southeast. He is also an accomplished pianist and composer.

Liz Zlot Summerfield has a BA in Ceramics from the University of Colorado, an MFA in ceramics from the University of Minnesota, and three years of post-graduate work at Appalachian Center for Crafts a division of Tennessee Technological University. She works in clay, fibers and metal.
