"Eating and drinking from handmade pottery elevates the everyday ritual of food preparation and service in our daily lives. I strive to make pottery that embodies qualities that delight the eye when the piece is in use or on display."
Amber Bewernitz is a graduate of the Professional Crafts Clay Program at Haywood Community College located in Clyde, NC. Prior to her clay career, Amber received a BA in Art History from Colorado State University in 2000. She also received a Certificate of Decorative Restoration and Painting from the City and Guilds of London in 2001. She is currently a clay resident at the Energy Xchange in Burnsville, North Carolina.
"My experience in art history and decorative restoration has a huge influence on my work. I am inspired by the brushwork found in Japanese folk pottery and the shapes and lines of mid-century modern design. The rich surface textures used in faux finishing techniques also influence the glaze patterns and colors of my work."
"I like the contrast and continuity of making pots in a part of the world with a long and rich crafts tradition while firing my pots in a kiln utilizing modern technology to harness methane to fuel the firings."
